A Bunny Hop into the Future of Gaming
Augmented and mixed reality are re-structuring the limitations and potential of what users expect. Released for both technologies, Archy the Rabbit offers children a fun and educationally immersive experience, while introducing older demographics to the next wave of gaming in an intuitive
and manageable way.

Technology Stack
Archy the Rabbit began as a project to display augmented reality in a simple, fun way.
To achieve this, our team used marker-rich
technology. This uses an image — often printed out onto a piece of paper — to trigger
a 3D animation that appears on the user’s device. This animation is cast against the real world
and is rooted in its “physical” location. In the case
of Archy the Rabbit, the animation can perform various gestures and undergo several
modifications.Realizing the success of Archy the Rabbit
in introducing new technologies, our team ported it onto HoloLens, a mixed reality device from
Microsoft, and expanded the functionality.
In this iteration, the bunny interacts with,
and responds to, both physical and virtual
components present in the environment.
This includes collision detection, real world
physics, etc.

Results
For users unfamiliar with augmented and mixed reality, Archy the Rabbit is an ideal introduction into these nascent spheres of gaming. In the case of augmented reality, it allows users to witness virtual elements interacting with real-world environments through the screen of a device. In the case of mixed reality, players are given the groundbreaking ability to engage in a reality in which physical and virtual elements coexist realistically and dynamically. In the case of both, users are able to step into the future in an intuitive and educational manner.
